Individual/Group Projects

McLean County Diversity Project   c/o Jeffrey A. Schwartz   PO Box 58   Downs, IL  61736

Students are required to complete an individual or group project, and this year some are even electing to complete more than one project. Through the completion of their project, students gain problem-solving and leadership skills that they bring to their communities.

Students may fulfill their project requirement by participating in the production of The Diary of Anne Frank. We have also partnered with community organizations, which offer students unique opportunities to fulfill their project requirement. Or, students may elect to create their own projects, and those are as unique as our students.

Current Projects include

AMBUCS --Several students are working with AMBUCS and will build five ramps each to fulfill their project requirement.

Grand Village of the Kickapoo Park--Scholars will work to help build structures at the Park. Also, one Scholar will record an interview with one of the members, telling his People's story.

Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe --Scholar Tanvi will coordinate our participation with Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe, which helps educate students about disabilities.

McLean County Clerk--One Scholar is working with the McLean County Clerk to ensure access to polling places and the machinery for voting for those with special challenges.

Special Olympics --Scholar Parker will coordinate our team of Scholars, who are eagerly anticipating taking the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics.

Statement of Purpose--Once again, a Scholar has been given the honor of writing our annual statement of purpose.

World Vision--Two Scholars are working to recruit sponsorships for children enrolled in World Vision's projects.
