My mom was reading a book for church called "The Hole in Our Gospel." It's about World Vision and how God asks us in the Bible to take care of orphans and his children and poor people. There is even a song that says "remember your children". I asked my mom what the book was about and I looked at it. There was a picture of a boy who is my sister’s age. He is 12. He is from Africa and had a Bulls shirt on. He was with his little brothers at their mom's grave. They are orphans and he has to take care of his brothers. I wanted to help them and my mom said that's what the book is about. I asked her if I could sponsor a child. She said yes. I asked if I could get other people like my baseball team at Heartland to sponsor a child. She said that would be a good idea. I said I wanted to go to tell the people at church and at Olympia and she said it would probably work. She called World Vision and they are excited to have me. I looked on the Internet at World Vision and found a boy I wanted to sponsor. I wanted him to be from Rwanda because of all the genocide and sad things that happen there. His name is Donatien and he has the same birthday as me, and he likes to play soccer. Now I want to help more people. I am working with Steven to make a power point. We will go to different groups and tell them about the kids and ask them to sponsor kids or donate money. We will have pictures of children who need sponsors. People can sponsor a child alone or as a group and share the money it costs.
My church and my pastor like the idea so much they want to try to take care of a whole village. We would adopt the kids and we could dig a well and stuff like that. We will have a special Sunday right after Easter when I can have the information. In the book it says something I feel. It says "Let my heart be broken by the things that break the heart of God". The hungry children break my heart.
