In July 2010, we headed back to the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, where Scholars enjoyed team building exercises in the outdoors.
The Scholars were physically and emotionally challenged by the alpine tower at Mountain Challenge, where they were asked to push themselves to their limits and beyond. They were mentally pushed to their limits again at the Highlander Research and Education Center, where they examined issues of race and racism.
Other activities included folk dancing, horseback riding, storytelling, a visit to Little Greenbrier, salamander hunting, a hike to a waterfall, and whitewater rafting.
