In 2004, the group traveled to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the center of the Cherokee Nation, to study Native American history. About $33,000 was raised to cover costs.

Students studied what has become known as the Trail of Tears, the forced movement of Native Americans across the South. The itinerary included visits to the Cherokee Heritage Center, the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, and Cherokee Landing State Park, as well as a stomp dance demonstration and other activities and sites.

Extensive diversity training, as it has and will each year, continued throughout the trip.
